Join us in Atlanta for the 2018 PHELAP Conference
The Office of Government and Community Relations at Georgia Tech is honored to host the 2018 Public Higher Education Legislative Advocacy Professionals conference. The conference will be held on July 25-27, 2018, in Atlanta, Georgia.
Each year, this conference brings together talented advocacy professionals to explore best practices in legislative advocacy and share valuable resources with one another. This is the eleventh consecutive year of the PHELAP conference, and we hope you will join us for an exciting program. We are looking forward to showcasing some of the unique aspects of public higher education in Georgia and offering diverse speakers to stir innovative advocacy programming.
The conference will include session topics such as: recruiting young alumni into advocacy initiatives, engaging university presidents, avoiding interim drop-off and rewarding advocate engagement. Keynote speakers, panel sessions, round-table discussions and unique tours will offer a multitude of opportunities for brainstorming new ideas and sharing lessons learned among conference attendees.

Friday, July 27 - Conference concludes at 11:00AM EST
While the registration deadline of June 24th has passed, limited spots for registration may still be available for attendees in the weeks leading up to the conference. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for confirmation before registering online.
Registration fee per attendee is $200 and includes all conference programming materials, transportation and meals during the conference. Additional details related to visiting Atlanta will be provided to registered attendees prior to the conference.
Hotel accommodations are offered at a group rate of $148 per night at the Georgia Tech Hotel & Conference Center. To book a room at this rate, use the online booking system linked below or call (800) 706-2899 and reference the PHELAP conference block.
Rooms must be booked by June 24, 2018, to receive the group rate. For room reservations in the hotel block after this date, please call the Georgia Tech Hotel for further details. Non-smoking accommodations have been blocked for the group for the nights of July 25th and 26th. If travel plans require an early arrival and attendees would like to request a room in the conference block on July 24th, please contact the Georgia Tech Hotel.
All on-campus conference sessions will be held in the Technology Square Research Building (TSRB), at 85 5th Street NW, Atlanta, GA 30308, across 5th Street from the Georgia Tech Hotel. For those traveling to Atlanta and staying in the GT Hotel, please find arrival details below for reference. * Please note that check-in for the GT Hotel officially begins at 4:00PM, however rooms may be available for check-in prior to that time. Anyone arriving with luggage directly to the conference location at TSRB will have access to a luggage storage room in the conference space. Attendees will have additional time for hotel check-in before the hosted reception Wednesday evening.
All transportation during the conference will be provided from the Georgia Tech Hotel lobby at 800 Spring Street NW, Atlanta, GA 30308. For those coming to the GT Hotel from other locations, parking is available in the hotel lot on a daily basis, $15/day parking rates apply. Driving directions to the GT Hotel are online for reference.
Maps and signage will be in place at the start of the conference to direct attendees to TSRB.
Hotel check-out is by 12 noon on Friday, July 27, and the conference will conclude before check-out. For attendees leaving directly from the conference space, there will be luggage storage available in TSRB.
* Arriving in Atlanta:
Heartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport offers access to common rideshare services Uber and Lyft. A ride from the airport will take roughly 20 - 25 minutes outside of rush-hour traffic and cost approximately $20-$25. Directions for taking a rideshare service from the airport are online for reference.
The public transportation system in Atlanta, MARTA, offers a rail station at the airport for $2.50/ride plus a $1 ticket fee. Directions for taking MARTA from the airport station are online. The closest rail station to the GT Hotel is the Midtown Station, approximately a 30 - 35 minute train ride from the airport. The Midtown station is 0.5 miles from the GT Hotel and it will take 10 - 15 minutes to walk to the hotel. Directions to the GT Hotel from the Midtown Station are online for reference.
