The Office of Government and Community Relations is the Institute's primary connection to the federal, state, and local governments and communities. Through active advocacy and relationship-building, Government and Community Relations staff members work to exhibit the opportunity of Georgia Tech and build esteem for the Institute in order to achieve its goals of progress and service for all that it touches.

The Georgia Institute of Technology is honoring civil rights icon and Congressman John Lewis with its Ivan Allen Jr. Prize for Social Courage. The award, which was presented Thursday in Atlanta, is given annually to individuals who, by asserting moral principle, positively affected public discourse at the risk of their careers, livelihoods and, sometimes, even their lives.
President Barack Obama today announced a major new commitment to fund research to map the activity of the human brain. The goal of this grand challenge project is to develop new technologies that reveal in real time how brain cells and neural circuits interact to process information. The Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN) Initiative will be launched with $100 million in the President's FY 2014 Budget.
